چکیده

The organization and management of the intense computation involved in the solution of large, sparse and non-symmetric systems of equations, arising from the discretization of Elliptic Boundary Value Problems (BVPs) by the Hermite Collocation method, on a Distributed-Shared Memory (DSM) multiprocessor environment is the problem considered herein. As the size of the problem directly suggests the usage of iterative methods, we consider the parallel implementation of the Successive Over-Relaxation (SOR) and the preconditioned Bi-Conjugate Gradient Stabilized (Bi-CGSTAB) methods on DSM systems. Using the parallel algorithms we devised in [9, 10], which take advantage of the red-black structure of the Collocation matrix, we address the problem of efficiently managing the whole computation, through the MPI programming model, on a DSM system. The application was developed on a SGI Origin 350 DSM multiprocessor computer and its performance is revealed by the speedup measurements included. Key-Words : Collocation, SOR, preconditioned Bi-CGSTAB, Red-Black Orderings, MPI, DSM Systems.

Parallel Iterative Solution of the Hermite Collocation Equations on GPUs

We consider the computationally intense problem of solving the large, sparse and non-symmetric system of equations arising from the discretization of elliptic Boundary Value Problems (BVPs) by the Collocation finite element method using Hermite bi-cubic elements. As the size of the problem directly suggests the usage of parallel iterative methods, we consider the implementation on multiprocesso...

Grid Computing for the Bi-CGSTAB applied to the solution of the Modified Helmholtz Equation

The problem addressed herein is the efficient management of the Grid/Cluster intense computation involved, when the preconditioned Bi-CGSTAB Krylov method is employed for the iterative solution of the large and sparse linear system arising from the discretization of the Modified Helmholtz-Dirichlet problem by the Hermite Collocation method. Taking advantage of the Collocation matrix’s red-black...

Communication and Optimization Aspects on Hybrid Architectures

Most HPC systems are clusters of shared memory nodes. Parallel programming must combine the distributed memory parallelization on the node inter-connect with the shared memory parallelization inside of each node. The hybrid MPI+OpenMP programming model is compared with pure MPI and compiler based parallelization. The paper focuses on bandwidth and latency aspects, but also whether programming p...
